About the Library Guild

In 1967, the Rev. Maurice E. Van Ackeren, S.J., founded the Rockhurst University Library Guild, which established an endowment fund for the continued development of Greenlease Library.   Since that time, the Library Guild has contributed annually to the library endowment fund through membership dues and fundraising activities.  This continuing support allows for the acquisition of new reference materials, additional special collections and updating the technology necessary for the academic growth of our students and faculty.

Critique Luncheon

The Library Guild's annual signature event that features different authors who present on his or her novel.

The 2014 Critique Luncheon featured Diane Eickhoff and Aaron Barnhart, authors of The Big Divide: A Travel Guide to Historic Civil War Sites in the Missouri-Kansas Border Region. This concise narrative about the most consequential border zone in United States history is a travel guide exploring 130 historical sites within the Missouri-Kansas region. The Big Divide combines page-turning history with travel information on major museums, battlefields and historic sites, along with the little places most other guides overlook.

Diane Eickhoff is a textbook editor turned historian who is also the author of Revolutionary Heart: The Life of Clarina Nichols and the Pioneering Crusade for Women’s Rights. Eickhoff lectures regularly for the Kansas Humanities Council on the early women’s rights movement and the Civil War.

Eickhoff’s husband and co-author Aaron Barnhart is the former television and media critic for theKansas City Star. Barnhart has contributed to the New York Times, Village Voice, CNN’s Reliable Sources, MSNBC’s Hardball, and Macworld.
